About the marriage ceremony

IMost ceremonies don't require any legal paperwork.  the one that does, of course, is marriage.

Under Australian Law anyone from any country can marry in Australia as long as they conform to the Marriage Act 1961.

Before you marry you must provide proof of identification and proof of birth (Birth Certificate/Passport).  If you have been married before evidence of divorce or death for the previous marriage must be provided.

All documents must be originals in English.  Documents can be translated by NAATI

A Notice of Intended Marrriage must be completed and signed in the presence of an authorised signatory and lodged with your chosen celebrant at least one month prior to the ceremony.

Two witnesses over the age of 18 years must witness the marriage.

There are a few more details but those will get you started.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

About Naomi

I have been a celebrant since 2009 and have performed baby namings, weddings, commitments, renewal of vows, funerals and memorials.  It sounds trite but it's true, I've loved every minute of my work with couples and families from all nationalities and all walks of life. I'm fascinated by our diversity and love incorporating family or cultural traditions into ceremonies.

In the context of your ceremony I'm not important but I understand people like to know a little about their celebrant so here it is.

Married for over 38 years I have a family consisting of three wonderful children and a loving husband.  One of my children is severely multiply disabled.  His quirky smile makes me laugh.

I've worked as a flower girl, a waitress, a secretary, administrative assistant and what used to be called a word processing supervisor - not of people, but of equipment.

I love music, theatre and film, animals galore (I have bred Australian Mist and Selkirk Rex Kittens) and spend a lot of time working on multiple crafts predominantly sewing and fibre art.

I enjoy the odd yoga and pilates class but just don't seem to have enough hours in the day...  If you would like to meet up or just call for a chat I'd love to talk to you. Bye for now,

Naomi
